myth and legneds

This year we are leaning about myths and legends. Our theme is: Learn from a myth- become a legend. We have been learning how to analyse stories to see if they are a myth. 

How can I tell if a story is a myth?

The story comes from a culture.

It has non-human characters like gods and demigods.

It can have some real characters like plants, humans and other animals.

It is set in a certain place.

It explains a certain phenomenon or says why things are the way they are.

The main parts of the story are:

Maui and his brothers

Stingray

NZandPacific Ocean?

How the north island of New Zealand was formed.

When Maui caught a huge fish using his blood as bait. The huge fish became the North Island of NZ.
